Date: August 9th, 2001 Location: DST Interactive Topic: Oracle Rdb - the other database from Oracle Almost seven years ago, Oracle purchased Digital's Rdb Relational Database Management System and continues to offer it as a separate product. This presentation will describe some of the customers of this product and the techniques they use to achieve high transaction rates and continuous operations. Rdb has a number of features that are being incorporated into Oracle's 8i and 9i database engines. These will be described. The Rdb engineering team continues to add features that enhance the interoperability of the two Oracle database environments. These will be described as well. Presenter: Bill Gettys, Oracle Corporation Bill Gettys is a Principal Engineer with the Mission Critical Engineering group, part of Oracle's Rdb Product Division. Mr. Gettys has fifteen years of design and operational experience with Oracle Rdb, including several major Oracle Rdb benchmark and prototyping efforts on behalf of Rdb customers. He has assisted with database design and application architecture for some of the largest Rdb databases in the world. Before joining Oracle Rdb Engineering, he has spent five years managing computer systems and data centers for colleges and has many years of teaching experience in independent schools and colleges |
