Topic: Dynamic Reporting Using XML and Reports 6i

Reports 6i introduces new functionality that provides the ability to modify existing reports and construct new reports at runtime through the use of XML. This runtime customization feature allows you to externalize report modifications outside of the basic report definition by encapsulating them in XML. The XML definitions can be static files, or generated "just-in-time" based on meta-data by custom applications.

A Runtime customization can be as minimal as changing a report label, or more extensive, such as altering a query or report template. Using this new feature it is even possible to specify and entire report definition purely in XML and bypass the report builder entirely. Another way to use this feature is to perform simultaneous bulk updates on multiple RDF files. Changes are applied in a batch, which produces new RDFs and drastically reduces the time and effort required to edit RDF files individually.

Those attending this presentation will learn how to define XML report definitions that can be used to customize existing reports and create new reports. They will also learn how XML and Reports Developer 6i can be used to deliver a dynamic, Web-based reporting solution.
